Liquid crystal defects of Yang-Mills theory in Landau gauge

چکیده

We point out that the global symmetries of the Yang-Mills theory in the Landau gauge support existence of variables similar to director fields in liquid crystal systems. We discuss two different types of the liquid crystal variables associated with the group of global Euclidean rotations and with a residual global group of color transformations. These global symmetries allow to identify various topological defects which resemble, in particular, vortex-like disclination defects and monopole-like objects in nematic liquid crystals. We suggest that the deconfinement phase transition in the Yang-Mills theory may be associated with a phase transition in a liquid crystal.

Spin-charge separation for the SU(3) gauge theory

fAμA C ν 2 in the SU(3) Lagrangian: we have no exact mathematical tools for the non-perturbative path integration of such non-quadratic Lagrangian. In this case it is useful to have any analogy with other area of physics. In Ref. [1] the authors considered the similarity between High-Tc cuprate superconductivity in condensed matter physics and the problem of a mass gap in the Yang-Mills theory....

Infrared behavior of the ghost propagator in the Landau gauge Yang-Mills theory

We prove that the Faddeev-Popov ghost dressing function in the YangMills theory is non-zero and finite in the limit of vanishing momenta and hence the ghost propagator behaves like free in the deep infrared regime, within the Gribov-Zwanziger framework of the D-dimensional SU(N) Yang-Mills theory in the Landau gauge for any D > 2. This result implies that the Kugo-Ojima color confinement criter...

Propagators in Yang-Mills theory for different gauges

Green’s functions are gauge-dependent quantities. Thus, the manifestation of confinement in these correlation functions also depends on the gauge. Here we use lattice gauge theory to study the gluon and the ghost propagators in a gauge (the so-called λ -gauge) interpolating between the Landau and the Coulomb gauge. Results are compared to the usual minimal Landau gauge.

Improved Renormalization Group Analysis for Yang-Mills Theory

We apply an improved renormalization group analysis for pure Yang-Mills theory in four dimensions in the Landau gauge and O(N) nonlinear sigma model in two dimensions. We find a pole in the gluon two-point function at one-loop order, which is generated nonperturbatively. In Yang-Mills theory this may correspond to the expectation value of a gauge invariant operator and emerges as MP/ΛMS ≃ 0.81,...

Landau gauge within the Gribov horizon.

We consider a model which effectively restricts the functional integral of Yang–Mills theories to the fundamental modular region. Using algebraic arguments, we prove that this theory has the same divergences as ordinary Yang Mills theory in the Landau gauge and that it is unitary. The restriction of the functional integral is interpreted as a kind of spontaneous breakdown of the BRS symmetry.
